"Maintenance Manager"

Fix contract, full time, Veurne (East-Flanders, Belgium)

 

Our client, PepsiCo International, has several production facilities of Beverages and Snacks in Europe, e.g. Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, etc.

For the Snacks Factory in Veurne, we look for an outstanding, very experienced heavy weight Maintenance Manager.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Maintenance manager as a member of the plant management team is final responsible to manage the maintenance department:

  • The Maintenance Manager translates the plant vision, strategy, Blue Chips and PepsiCo ‘code of conduct’ in the maintenance departmental strategy which is translated by the maintenance manager in 3 years action plans, procedures,… with clearly defined goals and KPIs
  • The Maintenance Manager builds and uses an external and internal (within PepsiCo) network with experts in above mentioned department, authorities, consultants, etc. in order to align operational strategies, action plans, procedures, … with other PepsiCo plants, aligned with operations
  • The main challenge for 2008 is to reshape the maintenance department in accordance to the business needs (rescheduling, competencies, structure, …)

DIMENSIONS:

  • Factory surface: 35.000 m²
  • Complexity in: Different production lines and technologies (PC IPS,LOPC,PC non-IPS, Direct extrusion, Frying, Pellet extrusion, Baked Lays, go-snacks and flow pack)
  • Culture and language: Dutch & also French and English as company language
  • Plant head count: 470 (not including the temporary production head count of up to 70–100 people)
  • The Maintenance Manager is responsible for approximately 35 people in his operational department
  • Reporting to the plant manager

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. The maintenance manager is responsible for the development of the maintenance strategy and the set up and implementation of the operational action plan which means:

- Optimization of existing maintenance processes and technologies to create a zero downtime process and improve productivity of the production lines:

  • Define and follow up of annual plan and KPIs
  • Integrate quality, hygiene and safety in the maintenance processes
  • Support and execute changes in close cooperation with production to improve productivity

- Building people and organization capability:

  • Development of a competent team /development of 30 highly skilled technicians
  • Development of key experts in the team
  • Development of process and packaging technology knowledge
  • Increase flexibility and all round skills

- Strengthen the continuous improvement mindset within the TPM philosophy

- Create safety and welfare mindset

- Build a culture of commitment, sense of urgency, pride and flexibility related to the business needs

- Set up clear communication lines

3. Deliver maintenance budget: manage budget effectively to achieve and deliver operational KPIs

4. Work in close cooperation with the NEBU team (Northern European Business Unit) and share best practices

COMPENTENCIES:

As a member of the plant management team, be the spokesman of your department. As manager of the team, work close together with your team to define and execute the day-to-day management of the plant maintenance, according to the Plant Strategy and PepsiCo vision:

    CRITICAL EXPERIENCES:

  • Dutch as mother tongue, French = a plus, English must be good enough (American cy)
  • Translate departmental strategies (3 years) into operational action plans and business processes
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the processing industries, preferably food, with maintenance!
  • Critical Experience = min. 5-8 years experience as Maintenance Manager: turn around management of a maintenance department
  • Capable to manage maintenance processes in the (food) processing industry
  • Having operational experience is a big plus
  • Experience in technical concepts as e.g. utility distribution systems, automation concept, process technologies, …
  • Subscribe these 4 key elements: costs, quality, service and safety
  • Project and people management skills and maturity
  • Natural leader, empower people, set clear directions
  • Loving challenges
  • Good and clear communicator, both to own people as to higher management
  • Preferably a masters degree in applied engineering (technical/industrial ing.) or equivalent by experience
